Yashiro Reiji
Yashiro Reiji, the owner of the yakiniku restaurant Yashiroya in the shopping district, is one of the warmest, funniest, and yet most indispensable figures in the worlds of NAjNA and LUNAR EXIT. He is an optimist who cares about pride and appearances, yet never comes across as pretentious. His philosophy of life is beautifully simple: music, laughter, friends, and the lively smoke rising from grilled meat. To him, that is everything. His bass playing may be “slightly below average,” but beneath the sound he creates lies a pure joy and a natural charm that draws people in.
As the bassist and self-styled “boss” of the band Three Little Devils and the Future Old Man, Yashiro has turned every live performance into a wildly unpredictable feast of chaos. His most infamous legend is the “arrest for running naked through a park” incident. Strangely enough, that absurd event ended up preventing Nobuo from going to Blue Note Tokyo, which in turn indirectly set off the fateful meeting between LUNA and MAYA. For that reason, Yashiro is sometimes jokingly called “the father of LUNAR EXIT.” One careless act of his became the spark that led to the birth of a legendary band.
Deep inside, he also carries a quiet and unwavering affection. He secretly harbors feelings for Kamishiro SARA, the vocalist of NAjNA. He sees SARA as a goddess beyond his reach, and while he is deeply captivated by her unique presence, his admiration has also made him hesitate to get too close. This restrained affection reveals both his innocence and his kindness toward others.
Yashiro and his best friend Nobuo have shared a lifelong bond, the kind of friendship that feels more like an inescapable entanglement. Yashiro is always causing trouble, knocking over shopping street signs, setting off fireworks chaos at summer festivals, and more, while Nobuo inevitably becomes his “best bad influence and cleanup crew.” The trouble he stirs up, along with his unwavering devotion to yakiniku, including once grilling “ten years’ worth of meat” for Nobuo, is his most awkward and yet warmest way of showing love and care for the people around him.
Even as he turns life into laughter, he is more sensitive than anyone to other people’s pain, and watches over them with more warmth than anyone else. That is the kind of man Yashiro Reiji is.
